Live music, skillets, and other randomness

I have decided to drop my two six-week courses for this semester. Originally, I was just going to drop one but decided today that I'm going to drop the other. I will still acquire my associates by the end of 2009 but will have to bust my ass a little more to do so. I'm okay with that. Whatever will I do with all this time until March when the twelve-week session begins? Oh, I don't know... read more, learn to cook with my new cast iron skillet (story about that later), look for a new apartment, bass lessons with Steve, mini-trips to who knows where, practice my Vietnamese (I've been listening to the CD's my sister got me for Christmas, and I understand every single word. I just can't seem to form sentences on my own.), and practice my Japanese with my Japanese friends (I'll be taking 102 in March.) That should keep me busy for now.

About my new cast iron skillet - Sunday I decided to go to Soho and buy another pair of black boots that I didn't need. I always tell myself to stay out of areas like that on weekends because of all the slow tourists, but I had an itch for some new black boots. I wove in and out of the gazillion shoe stores on Broadway but didn't find a single pair (in my size) that I liked. I ended up moseying on over to the Crate and Barrel and came home with a cast iron skillet. So far I've made a yummy spinach and cheese frittata. Next up, cornbread....mmm...mmm...mmm......

Check out this article about a band named Care Bears on Fire. Their song "Met You on Myspace" is about meeting a fellow classmate on myspace but as it turns out he's really a unicorn. Awesome.

And also, I'll be out in Greenpoint tonight to see Half Ajar at Red Star. Come join me if you're in the neighborhood. Pre-drinking, eating, and board game playing will be done at Kent's bar.

This week’s Blender Bytes artist is up and coming “kid-core” act, Care Bears on Fire. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, this 3-piece garage-punk act has recently started to garner critical acclaim from the likes of both New York Magazine and Spin… not too shabby for a bunch of 12-year olds in 7th grade, right? Don’t let the age thing fool you, though, because Care Bears on Fire channels the heart and charisma of rockers twice their age. Check them out in this week’s installment of Blender Bytes and be sure to answer the band’s musical trivia question for a chance to win a brand new snowboard: http://www.blender.com/video/bytes/?src=dx14:mtd
